MARCH 30, 2009

Standing shoulder-to-shoulder, often times in snow and single-digit temperatures, Nodak Mutual employees and agents joined friends and clients in the fight against the rising waters of the Red River of the North.

It was not business as usual for many Fargo-Moorhead businesses last week as officials implored citizens to help in the flood effort.  Nodak Mutual employees and agents were fighting the Red on many fronts - helping sandbag homes in south Fargo, filling sandbags at the Fargodome and shoring up dikes in Fargo's upper northside neighborhoods.

"Many of our employees were volunteering at sandbag central or were helping people - some of them complete strangers - whose home or property was in danger.  As a company, we told our employees to go where they are needed," said Director of Marketing and Public Relations Joe Welsch.

Those that couldn't physically help with sandbagging contributed in other ways from bringing food to tired workers, donating supplies to the temporary animal shelter at the fairgrounds and helping with childcare for fellow employees working on the flood's front lines.  "It's a collective effort, " Welsch continued.  "And Nodak Mutual employees answered the call for help."

Although the home office in downtown Fargo closed its doors Friday, March 27 after the city sent out another desperate plea for help, normal operations resumed this week and the claims staff is ready to help clients in need.

"Fargo is where our home office is as well as home for many of our employees," Welsch said.  "As a company, we all stand together in this fight and we will be here for our customers and employees that are affected by the flood."

If you are a Nodak Mutual customer and have suffered a loss, please call 1-800-42-NODAK to report your claim, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
